I’m Maria Hypponen, a communications professional with 20+ years of experience helping organizations and leaders share their message with clarity, creativity, and impact.

With 20+ years of experience in professional services, public, not-for-profit, union, and charitable sectors, I know how to craft messaging and materials that inform, engage, and inspire. I’ve developed internal communication strategies, written executive messages, and led cross-functional campaigns that align with organizational values and goals. My focus is always on clarity, connection, and building trust across teams and with audiences.

Thought leadership writing & executive voice

I specialize in helping leaders and subject matter experts amplify their voice. Whether it’s through long-form LinkedIn articles, blog posts, or speeches, I capture the individual’s authentic tone and present their insights in ways that establish credibility and spark meaningful conversation. From ghostwriting for executives to re-purposing content from podcasts and videos, I make sure ideas reach and resonate with the right audience.

Content strategy & writing

Strong strategy is the foundation of effective content. My role is to plan, create, and deliver content that connects. From external campaigns to internal newsletters, from detailed reports to concise social posts, I ensure every piece of content serves a purpose. My expertise lies in translating complex ideas into clear, accessible messages that drive results.

Creativity mentorship

Alongside my professional communications work, I also help creative writers make progress with their creative projects. I write short fiction, poetry, and personal essays. My creative work has appeared in The Globe & Mail, Scrivener, Every Day Fiction, CommuterLit, Five Minutes, and more.
